<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Claesson4Norris</b></div><div>Excuse me? The game is clearly skewing younger, not older. Obviously there are exceptions like Jumbo Joe and Chara, but by and large players are declining <strong>Much</strong> sooner than in years past. It used to be a player was in his prime from like 27-33 and then a few years of NHL level hockey left. Now that peak is at like 24-30, and once the end comes, it comes way quicker. Burns still being this good at almost 35 is pretty surprising, but it's ridiculous to expect him to be able to keep it up for more than a season or two, let alone another half decade.</div></div>
And then you have players like Giordano, Williams, Carter. Burns will definitely decline a bit, but I think he can definitely keep it up for 2-3 seasons, and even past that he will still be worth his contract if the cap continues to rise. Defensemen tend to age more gracefully, as well.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sebybbq</b></div><div>How can papy joe thornton and lucas radil are worth s first round pick. Are you feeling ok, because we could send medical attention if you need.</div></div>
Thornton had 51 points last year and is on an expiring contract. A third-line center/PP specialist and a reserve player for a late-first-rounder is market value, at least at the TDL.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Subbanator7667</b></div><div>Didn't think I 2ould have to day this for another year or two but you're significantly overvaluing Meier.</div></div>
I would agree with you that Meier is going to decline, but he's not there yet and I think we are in the small minority. Most people seem to be pretty high on his stock, so the Sharks would be selling high.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>papishark</b></div><div>As a sharks fan your expecting too much for all of these guys. Only close ones are Meier and Couture</div></div>
Really? I can understand why it seems that way for Vlasic...seems like I am the only one who thinks it is the system, and not Vlasic, who is at fault. But Dillon, Sorensen, and Thornton are going for market value, especially with the TDL likely being in favor of sellers this year. GMs, I don't think, value draft picks as much as fans do. Consider what Justin Braun was just traded for...
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>moli92</b></div><div>so you think a 32 year old D man is in the rise while a 24 year old winger is on the decline?</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Subbanator7667</b></div><div>Drouin regress.....at 24......when the game is getting faster and more skilled, a style he thrives on.........Vlasic will continue to be an Elite shut down defenceman, in that same league, for 7 more years, at the age of 32...... that may very well be some of the worst logic I have ever seen in my life.</div></div>
I think both of you are using regression in a different way. Drouin isn't 20, and Vlasic isn't 35. For a couple of years, Drouin has been a 2nd-line center/winger. For more than a half-decade, Vlasic has been a #1 shutdown-defenseman. Drouin has had a hot start, and Vlasic has had a bad start. I'm saying they are going to progress/regress to their means. I don't think Drouin's ten games is indicative of him taking the next step or Vlasic's ten games are indicative of the start of a downward spiral.
WRT to Vlasic specifically, he will probably slow down towards the end of his contract (even though his style of play doesn't really rely on physicality), of he should be an elite defender over the next 3-5 years.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sebybbq</b></div><div>He is only 32 😂😂😂 this trade is terrible man you don’t trade a 24 years old forward for a 32 years old defenseman who doesn’t skate that well and who is on a terrible contract. You are completely out of track with that. Drouin entering is prime and vlassic best day are behind. San jose would have to add pick and prospect</div></div>
If you think Vlasic is a bad skater, I don't know what you've been watching.
